The punched angle included in this kit allows for adjustments on pitched ceilings and it can be cut down with a hacksaw for lower ceilings. You can purchase additional punched angle to accommodate taller ceilings which we will discuss later in the article. The punched angle and operator bracket included are heavy duty as compared to what comes standard with a new garage door opener.
Works With All Brands of Garage Door Openers
The Decko universal installation kit will work with all brands of garage door openers. The parts included are not exclusive to any one brand and can be adjusted, cut down, or modified for almost any installation type. The kit is designed to hang a standard garage door opener from the ceiling. The main punched angle that is attached to the ceiling should be mounted into the wood ceiling joists with lag screws.
You do not want to use anchors to the drywall as the garage door opener will fall to the ground. This is the main reason this is such a nice kit for the installation of a new or existing garage door opener. The kit comes with all the heavy duty parts and hardware you need to complete the job right.
Heavy Duty Operator Bracket Included
A heavy duty operator bracket is included with this kit. This allows you to attach the operator pick up arm to a one-piece solid reinforced bracket that attaches to the top and bottom of the section. This provides a secure connection with the door preventing it from pulling out of the stile like standard brackets.
While a heavy duty operator bracket is not required for non-insulated garage doors, it is required for steel back insulated garage doors. Steel back garage doors do not have a full reinforced stile behind the inside layer of metal. A heavy duty operator bracket provides a secure connection to the door from the top behind the strut down to the screws that hold on the hinge. This prevents any damage to an expensive steel back insulated garage door.
Works with Single or Double Car Garage Doors
Much Better Than What Comes Included in the Opener Box
Ceilings over 10ft Tall?
If you have ceiling over 10ft feet tall, you can still use this kit but you will need to purchase additional punched angle in longer lengths to accommodate for the drop. Ideally you will want your opener rail about 2-3” away from the garage door when it is in the up position. This will provide the proper angle for your pick up arm and your garage door opener reversing mechanism will operate correctly if ever activated.
Loud Garage Door Opener?
If you have a loud garage door opener, you can try installing a vibration isolation kit. This is a very simple rubber bushing kit that isolated the hanger brackets from the attach point on the garage door opener. The bolts used to attach the hanger bracket to the opener will have a thick rubber bushing in between the two pieces of metal so they are not making direct contact. This helps eliminate vibration and noise that is transferred up into the ceiling and throughout the home.
